Our History

University Park Bible Church was begun as a Sunday School in 1958 by several young families desiring to provide their children with sound Biblical training. The group soon acquired the current property in 1962, and the old sanctuary was built at that time, mostly by the members of the body. The current sanctuary was also built mostly by the members themselves, and started use in 2006. Incorporated in the State of Alaska, the Church is governed by its members.  Organizationally independent from other groups or denominations, it functions autonomously under the control of its constitution and bylaws.  A board of directors, made up of elected members, functions to carry out the directives of the constitution. The congregation meets annually to receive reports, elect officers, and conduct other business as needed.

University Park Bible Church actively encourages missions through regular prayer and financial support. The second Sunday of each month has become our Missions Sunday, when prayer support is encouraged, and when an update is given on one of our supported missionaries.

The ministry of intercession is often unseen to casual observers, but it has a high priority in our church.  In addition to individual prayer, there are two group prayer structures in place.  They are the Thursday Prayer Meeting and the telephone prayer chain.

Further information on Church structure and membership is available on request from the Pastor.

What we believe

We believe in the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired of God, and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life.
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.
We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned, and thereby incurred, not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and vicarious sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood.
We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and in his present life for us, as High Priest and Advocate.
We believe in “That blessed hope,” the personal, and imminent return of our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
We believe in the Person and ministry of the holy Spirit convicting sinners of sin, righteousness, and judgment and empowering believers to live victoriously and serve effectively.
We believe in the bodily
resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting, conscious punishment of the lost.
